Plenty of high-scoring rounds have been recorded at Lakes Entrance Golf Club, which continues to attract near-record numbers over the January holiday period.
Last Wednesday’s medley stableford drew almost 50 players and was won by a delighted Rob Sperring. It had been a long time between wins for the former Moe player, whose 39 points earned him both the “A” grade and the overall prize. Sperring hopes the victory and turnaround in form will set him up for a big year.
Youngster Mitchell Naylor continued his outstanding recent form, taking “B” grade with 37 points, while Ann Furphy claimed “C” grade with 38 points.
Players were out early on Thursday, eager to beat the rain, with 97 taking to the course. Five players finished with more than 40 stableford points, led by “D” grade
Ian Broom, who swept
all before him to take the overall victory with an exceptional 44 points.
Classy left-hander Dean Barelli won “A” grade with 41 points, though Brett Stokes also scored 40 points and was narrowly denied a win. Bill Fry claimed “B” grade with 41 points, while Greg Hayes was victorious in “C” grade with 40 points.
Saturday saw 113 players hit the fairways and greens, with the multi-talented Corry Schreuders taking both the overall and “B” grade victory with 39 points. Nigel Carr and Chris Fenner were successful in “A” and “C” grade respectively, each with 37 points.
The flamboyant Di Dickson triumphed in “D” grade with 38 points.
