The Lakes Entrance New Year’s celebrations were once again a great success, with revellers enjoying a fun-filled evening of live entertainment, street festivities and two spectacular fireworks displays at 9.30pm and midnight.
Live music ran throughout the evening, showcasing local and regional performers including Jay Wagstaff, Phoebe and the Rockhounds, and the Meg Doherty Band on the foreshore, while other local venues were packed out.
The carnival atmosphere extended to the Slipway area, while road closures allowed locals and visitors to safely wander the streets, visiting hospitality venues and food vans, all of which reported strong trade throughout the night.
East Gippsland Police praised the community for their conduct, noting that all New Year’s events across the region were considered a success, with the majority of
attendees enjoying a safe and happy celebration. The Mounted Branch and the Public Order Response Team supported local police to maintain a secure environment for all.
Elsewhere in East Gippsland, communities including Paynesville, Metung and Buchan also marked the arrival of 2026 with fireworks, live music and family-friendly festivities, ensuring the region enjoyed a coordinated and vibrant start to the new year.
