Ben Cruachan, the local bushwalking club affiliated with Bushwalking Victoria, is offering a packed program of walks, car camps, pack carries, and cycling excursions across Gippsland this summer. Activities range from day walks and overnight trips to walks from comfortable roofed bases, catering to all experience levels.
This season, the club is focusing on the Bairnsdale and Lakes Entrance region, with a number of exciting outings on the calendar.
Highlights include:
– January 18: Walk along the Mitchell River, continuing via the Rail Trail to the Nicholson River.
– February 8: Visit to Raymond Island.
– February 28: Exploration of Bullungwari State Forest, just north of Bairnsdale.
In addition to these walks, Ben Cruachan members will work with Bushwalking Victoria on track clearing projects near Licola, including sections of the McMillans Walking Track, the Crinolines, and the Wellington River.
The club’s broader program also features a car camp and walks near Mt Howitt, trips to Mt Kosciuszko, a weekend of guided walks from a lodge near Mt Hotham, and
work along the Australian Alpine Walking Track near Benambra.
