Twice recently Lake Bunga resident John Pilgrim has coincidentally come across cars stuck on a piece of road that is constantly in disrepair on the Lake Bunga Beach Road and he is keen to get some real repairs done.
The problem is where the road intersects with Tee Tree Lane – the asphalt finishes on a slope and the gravel is washing away.
“The last driver was a lady who was quite rattled by the situation, the car was stuck in the rut as she attempted to drive up the hill,” John said.
“I contacted the East Gippsland Shire about the condition of the road six weeks ago and they came out and put a piece bitumen on Tee Tree Lane, not on the Lake Bung Beach Road, then just put some gravel on the problem piece. It was a half repair job with the wrong material, there are no gutters either side so the gravel just washed away in no time.
John is concerned if it is this bad now what will it be like with busy Christmas traffic.
“It is just an accident waiting to
happen, particularly if two cars meet on
that section,” he said.
He has contacted the East Gippsland
Shire again and hopes for a more thorough remedy.
“Really it needs to be sealed as it has a good solid base to build from. If not that at least a proper repair job with quality material,” John said.
