Lakes Entrance is on top of the Gippsland Bowls Region weekend pennant ladder after eight rounds.

With Sale going down to Metung, a Lakes clean sweep at home over the winless Paynesville saw them snatch the top spot.

Lakes were 64-51 winners, the closest rink result being with Daniel Roberts, Daffy Rawlings, Wayne Jones and Brendan Addison (25-23), who won an entertaining rink after the scores were 16-16 after 18 ends.

Paynesville picked up seven shots on the 19th, before Lakes struck back in dramatic fashion, picking up four and five on the final two ends.

Other winners were Eric Spence, Margaret Brandhoj, Darren Martin, Joanne Martin (21-15), and Stephen Smith, Jim Northe, Kevin Brown and Bradley Lancaster (18-13).

It was a great result in division one with both sides victorious, ladder leader Lakes Entrance 2 winning 64-47 on the road against Bairnsdale 2, despite claiming just one rink.

The victory of Boyd McPhee, Kevin Watson, Jack Light and Wallace Mason, 32-8, was enough to ensure victory.

Lakes Entrance 3 remains in third place on the table after clean sweeping Howitt Park, 66-42.

Kevin Dowie, Adrian Culph, Tom Rowe and Sharon Hall led the way, sensational winners 27-10, well supported by Lynton Rathjen, Kenneth Melville, Mark Elliot and Samuel Berlingeri (20-14)

and Mark Campbell, Frank Ryan, Stan Short and Charles Lesiw (19-18).

It was another great outcome in division two with both teams successful, led by ladder leader, Lakes Entrance 4, who made the trip to Bruthen, returning 39-30 winners.

Ryan Dobson, Christine Piatek, Bob Lucas and Tony Spink, who won 25-10, swayed the overall result in the visitors’ favour.

Third-placed Lakes 5 won a close one against Bairnsdale Golf 47-43.

Sharon Kavanagh, Michael Buttifant, Stephen Adams and Ronlad McKay (23-20) and Ernie Smith, Margo Short, Jeannette Rowley and Geoff Webb (24-23) were winners.

In division three Lakes Entrance went down to Paynesville 47-29.
