Swan Reach Primary School celebrated an extraordinary milestone last month, marking 150 years of education with a day of reflection, community connection and festive fun on Monday, November 3.
The school hosted a special morning tea to honour the occasion, inviting former principals, teachers and students to return and reminisce. A display of memorabilia and school photographs spanning a century and a half provided a nostalgic backdrop, sparking conversations about classroom life across the decades.
Four former principals delivered presentations, sharing memories and reflecting on the school’s evolution.
Past principals Andrew Kenyon, Deborah Nicholls, and others joined current principal Warwick Fraser for the event. Guests enjoyed a traditional Devonshire morning tea while reconnecting with familiar faces from years gone by.
A highlight of the morning was a historical demonstration led by grade 4/5 teacher Marcia Mason, who, with the help of volunteer students, re-created what schooling looked like in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Students dressed in period-style clothing acted out lessons and games from the era, offering a lively snapshot of education in days gone by.
The anniversary celebrations continued into the evening with Swan Reach Primary School’s biannual School Fair. Despite miserable weather, spirits remained high as families poured through the gates from 5pm.
The fair offered a wide array of attractions, including hot food stalls, games, a coffee van, showbags, fairy floss, lucky jars, slushies, plant and cake stalls, raffles and lucky door prizes. Students flocked to the glow-in-the-dark underwater-themed room and the ever-popular haunted house.
The night concluded with a spectacular fireworks display that lit up the sky, drawing cheers from the crowd.
Swan Reach Primary School extended heartfelt thanks to local community members and businesses for their generosity and support, noting that the fair’s success would not have been possible without them.
