A world-first monster truck stunt, a spectacular fireworks display and thousands of excited show-goers made the 160th Sale Show one of the most successful in its proud history.
The milestone event exceeded expectations with thousands attending over the weekend of October 31 and November 1.
The Friday night carnival featured the record-breaking monster truck performance by Gippsland’s own Xuereb family, followed by a thrilling fireworks display. The main arena also hosted the popular young farmer’s challenge, dog high jump, shetland steeple chase and six-bar show jumping events, which drew strong entries and support from the sidelines.
The pavilion exhibits doubled from last year’s show with more than 3500 entries received. Judges and visitors enjoyed the exceptional displays, with floral art drawing a high level of attention, and the cake decorating and craft displays praised for their creativity and quality.
The return of show jumping to the main Sale Show program, after years of being held on a separate weekend, was strongly supported by competitors with more than 100 entries.
Poultry also made a comeback this year, with a large number of exhibits adding to the agricultural strength of the show. The first ever Magnificent Mullet Competition was also a crowd favourite.
The ever-popular Kids Zone delighted families with free children’s entertainment, face painting and hands-on activities on Friday and Saturday mornings.
Sale and District Agricultural Society president, Richard Crooke, said the committee was thrilled with the success of the milestone show and thanked the community for its support.
“The response from the community has been incredible. People loved the fireworks, the monster trucks, the show jumping and even the convenience of the new on-site parking,” he said.
“The committee worked hard to deliver an event that would be remembered and we are grateful that it has received such overwhelming feedback and support.
“After 160 years, the Sale Show continues to bring people together to celebrate everything we love about our region.”
For the first time, show-goers enjoyed the convenience of on-site parking during the Friday night carnival.
