It may have been cold outside, but times were hot inside as the 142 Gippsland swimmers competed in Gippsland Swimming Incorporated meet at Traralgon last Saturday.
The supporters were thankful it was an indoor meet with the torrential rain outside, though the humid conditions inside were tough at times.
The wet weather meant there were a lot of the general public in the kids play areas, meaning there was more noise and people than usual.
There were a number of the younger swimmers rising to the challenge of swimming in the 50 metre pool, some for the first time, while the older swimmers were busy ticking off qualifying times for upcoming events, as well as setting personal bests in events they haven’t raced in
a while.
Several records were broken as competition
heats up.
Gippsland is a strong swimming region, having won the junior district championship for 42 years consecutively, with many of those swimmers staying on and now breaking open records.
Gippsland meets are competitive, with Saturday’s no exception.
