There was plenty of rain about last Saturday, playing havoc with local bowls, but remarkably some of the matches in Gippsland Bowls Region Saturday pennant managed to reach a conclusion.
It wasn’t the ideal conclusion for Lakes Entrance in premier league, going down to Sale (59-62) at home in the battle of the unbeaten sides.
Despite winning two of the three rinks, it was Sale who took home more points in an enthralling contest.
Eric Spence, Margaret Brandhoj, Darren and Joanne Martin capitalised on the final five ends, not conceding a shot, to win their rink 21-19.
Brendan Addison, Daffy Rawlings, Wayne Jones and Daniel Roberts looked in trouble at 18-19 down, but were impressive late, securing a 27-23 victory.
Unfortunately in the battle of the big guns, Sale’s Andrew Bell got the better of Bradley Lancaster as
Sale won nine of the last
11 ends.
After the narrow defeat, Lakes Entrance dropped a spot on the ladder to third.
In division one, Lakes Entrance 2s match with Howitt Park was washed out, not altering their spot, sitting comfortably at the top of
the ladder.
It was a great result for Lakes Entrance 3, making it back-to-back wins, climbing into the top three in
the process.
They made the trip to Orbost for the local derby, coming home 65-40 victors, despite only claiming one rink outright.
Ian Morris, Adrian Culph, Tom Rowe and Sharon Hall had a day out, emphatic 32-4 winners – the difference between the two sides.
Charles Lesiw, Stanley Short, Frank Ryan and Mark Campbell managed to escape with an 18-18 draw.
The points were shared in division three between Lakes Entrance 4 and 5, with the rain denting the enthusiasm of players.
They have both won two matches thus far this season and are are relatively well placed, Lakes 5 second and Lakes 4 fourth, behind ladder leader Paynesville who has won on three occasions.
It was a similar result in division three, with sixth-placed Lakes Entrance 6
sharing the points with Howitt Park.
