Lakes Entrance locals are being called on to “grow, move and take action” for men’s health this month as Movember kicks into full swing.
The campaign, which began 22 years ago, has become a global movement tackling men’s mental health, suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.
Suicide remains the leading cause of death for Australian men aged 15–54, and the rates in regional areas like Gippsland are more than double those in cities. Movember aims to change that by funding projects that reach men where they are — in workplaces, sporting clubs and country towns.
Movember ambassador, James McGlashan, said he joined the cause after losing a close friend to suicide, while athlete and advocate Harry Garside is also encouraging locals to get involved.
This November, Lakes Entrance residents are urged to grow a moustache, take on a 60km challenge, host a fundraising event, or create their own “Mo mission” — all in support of men’s health.
