The men's 100 up club championship has been decided with Wally Mason defeating Greg Bertram. (PS)

Defending champion Lakes Entrance maintained its unbeaten season in Gippsland Bowls Region midweek pennant with a relatively easy victory, 77-58, over Maffra at the Maffra Bowling Club last Tuesday.

Mike McKay, Jenny Dowie, Jim Northe and Kevin Dowie were in splendid form, victorious 33-12, despite losing the final three ends.

Winning eight consecutive ends through the middle period put the game out of reach of Maffra a long way from the finish.

Eric Spence, Margaret Brandhoj, Kevin Watson and Joanne Martin were Lakes’ other winners 21-17.

In division two, unbeaten ladder leader Lakes Entrance 2 was a clean sweep victor over Paynesville at home, 82-47.

The dominant win was led by Michael Bratt, Carol Hurren, Frank Detering and Peter Alves-Veira who claimed their rink emphatically 34-15.

David Hocking, Jacinta Wilson, Peter Howie, Peter Spark (26-17) and Lynton Rathjen, Rob Norder, Stan Short and Sharon Hall (22-15) also claimed their rinks comfortably.

Lakes Entrance 3 returned to the winners’ list and the top four at the expense of Bairnsdale 3, who were gallant in defeat at home, Lakes victorious 68-58, claiming two of the three rinks.

The biggest winners were Dawn Irwin, Joseph Hales, Charlie Abela and Greg Bertram, who prevailed easily, 27-13.

It was more of battle for Julie Rowe, Robert Wilson, William Gilbert and Clement Hochkins, winners in a high-scoring tussle 28-26.

The unmarked report card for round three wasn’t to be with Lakes Entrance 5 going down in division three, wrecking the perfect day.

Lakes Entrance 4 maintained its perfect start to the campaign and top-of-the-table seeding with a 56-28 win at home over Paynesville 3.

Ian Gray, Suzanne Light, Stephen Adams and Ross Irvine clinical victors 34-13, well supported by the coolest cat on the green, Angelo Alonoso, Max Towan, Margo Short and Ernie Smith, who prevailed 22-15.

Lakes Entrance 5 found Bairnsdale 5 a task too big at home, losing 30-53.

Jill Roberts, Robyn Auscote, Margaret Simpson and Sandra Hudson pocketed their rink 20-17 in a morale-boosting effort for the outfit, who are still chasing their initial victory for

the season.
