Weekend pennant side remains unbeaten

Lakes Entrance remains unbeaten after two rounds of Gippsland Bowls Region weekend pennant, surviving a spirited challenge at home from Lindenow before prevailing 62-56.

Lakes Entrance sits third on the ladder, behind the other two unbeaten teams, Bairnsdale and Sale.

Impressive wins were recorded by Brendan Addison, Wayne Jones, Daffy Rawlings, Ray Ricca (24-17) and Eric Spence, Daniel Roberts, Joanne and Darren Martin (24-10), who dominated the second half of the contest.

The Cockies salvaged a rink with David Tong, Donald Banks, Lloyd Hammond and Stephen Brill outplaying Stephen Smith, Jim Northe, Kevin Brown and Bradley Lancaster, 29-14, victorious in 10 of the last 11 ends.

In division one, Lakes Entrance 2 sits on top the of ladder, the only unbeaten side, outpointing the winless Lakes Entrance 3, 61-48.

Winners for Lakes 2 were Wayne Denning, Kevin Watson, Jack Light, Wallace Mason (25-14) and Michael Bratt, Jeffrey Wilson, Johannes Kool and Barry Roberts (21-14).

Lynton Rathjen, Geoffrey Rawlings, Mark Elliott and Samuel Berlingeri claimed a rink (20-15) for Lakes 3.

It was a great result in division two for Lakes Entrance with both sides successful, the unbeaten Lakes Entrance 4 currently second on the ladder with Lakes Entrance 5 in fourth spot.

Lakes Entrance 4 was an easy winner at home over Paynesville, 53-38, led by Joseph Hales, Roy Roberts, Bill Gilbert and Charlie Abela, who prevailed convincingly 27-15.

Wim Pennings, Viv Grumley, Suzanne Light and Tony Spink battled hard, eventually banking the points 26-23.

Lakes Entrance 5 defeated Bairnsdale at home impressively, 51-22.

Sharron Kavanagh, Stephen Adams, Michael Buttifant and Ronald McKay were in sublime touch, winners 30-9, backed up by Ern Smith, Margo Short, Jeanette Rowley and Kenneth Melville, victors 21-13.

In division three, Lakes Entrance broke through for its initial win of the season, moving into the top four in the process, huge 60-24 winners over Lindenow.

There were big wins for Max Towan, Robyn Auscote, Margaret Simpson, Faye Cannizzaro (33-12), and Kerrie Darby, Colin Grassby, Gary Lewis and Greg Bertram (27-12).

Premier: Maffra v Lakes Entrance.

Division one east: Lakes Entrance 2 v Bairnsdale 2; Howitt Park v Lakes Entrance 3.

Division two east: Bairnsdale Golf v Lakes Entrance 4: Lakes Entrance 5 v Lindenow.

Division three east: Bairnsdale Golf v Lakes Entrance.
