It was a tough road trip for the the Lakes Entrance Pelicans last weekend, as they chase their second win in the 2025 Country Basketball League season.
The Pelicans did battle with the South Peninsula Sharks on Saturday night at the Rosebud Stadium, before backing up with a Sunday fixture at Korumburra against
the Wildcats.
Unfortunately there was no fairytale on one of basketball’s toughest trips, going done easily in both matches.
The Sharks put the Pelicans to the sword early on Saturday night with some exceptional shooting, the score 33-17 at the
first break.
It was a tough slog for the remaining three quarters with Southern Peninsula having a full roster of 12 players, while the Pelicans suited up with just eight.
The Sharks’ leading scorers Corey Hastings (21), Blake Wagenaar (20), Patrick Ramsay (17) and Matthew Monckton (14) were all adept from three-point range.
The Sharks led by 27 points at half time, eventually winners by 61 points, 116-55.
Finn Boag was a positive inclusion
for Lakes Entrance, top scoring with
21 points.
After a disappointing performance the previous day, Sunday could have gone either way, and it was great to see the Pelicans come out upbeat and take the game up to Korumburra.
With plenty of defensive pressure and some consistent shooting early, Lakes Entrance led by a point at quarter time, before the Wildcats found their mojo and their bench depth kicked in, turning an eight-point half time lead into a 34-point win.
The Pelicans never shirked an issue, and it was heartening that their final quarter for the weekend was heir second best of the match, and possibly the weekend.
With Boag not backing up, Kobe Edwards (16) and Sacha Murdoch (14) led the scoring for Lakes Entrance.
The Wildcats had plenty of contributors, led by Micheal Johns (21), Byron Walker
(15), Joel Winderlich (13) and Matthew Stevens (11).
Lakes will enjoy a weekend off to refresh and refocus before hosting Morwell Magic at home on Sunday, November 9, at 2pm.
