Toorloo brigade celebrates

Toorloo Arm Fire Brigade recently held its annual awards dinner at the Sea Shanty in Lakes Entrance. Toorloo Fire Brigade held its annual dinner at the Sea Shanty restaurant in Lakes Entrance recently, where all guests and brigade members were welcomed by Captain Melissa Zagami.

After enjoying the meals, Captain Mel Zagami welcomed and introduced Deputy Chief Officer Trevor Owen who presented the service awards.

Five-year certificate service awards recipients were second lieutenant Jye McKerrell, secretary/treasurer Avis Salisbury, community safety coordinator Mandy Walker and third lieutenant Dino Zagami.

Twenty years of service medal recipient was Jo Riordan and the National Medal was awarded to first lieutenant Tim Elrington.

This was followed by the presentations of the Toorloo Fire Brigade Awards which were presented by Captain Zagami.

Recipients were:

– Firefighter of the Year Award – Nick Bain

– Excellence in Progress Award – Mandy Walker

– Rising Flame Award – Sam Ditchburn

– Professional Growth Award – Harry Maxwell

– Most Appreciated Non-Operational Award – Avis Salisbury

– Penguin Award – Brett Stewart

– Top Sh** Stirrer Award – Wayne Johnston.

There were 33 members and guests in attendance, with special guests May Beveridge and her

daughter Marlene Rees enjoying the night

and congratulating the

award recipients.

After the speeches and awards, desserts were served. All agreed it was a fun filled night full of banter

and chatter.
