Lakes Entrance Bowling Club hosted the Gippsland Bowls Region (GBR) State Triples Championships last Sunday.

The men’s and women’s event was a feast of fine bowling and tantalisingly close contests, the finals being no exception with each ending in a 20-18 result.

After several lead changes during the men’s final, the combination of Maffra’s Ron Orchard (skip), Bairnsdale’s Stewart Pyers and Stratford’s Ian Johns got up against Metung’s Jack Sharman (skip), Traralgon’s Michael Better and Lindenow’s Phil Manning.

In the women’s final, Lakes’ Joanne Martin, Metung’s Rhonda Sadovsky and Bairnsdale’s Glynis Bugeja proved too good for Lakes Entrance duo Sharon Hall (skip) and Vivienne Grumley, who combined with Lindenow’s Kathy Richards.

All matches were played in great spirit – the finals no exception with excellent sportsmanship on display.

The winners will represent GBR at the State Championships at Bendigo in April 2026.

Vivienne Grumley, Sharon Hall and Kathy Richards were runners-up in the 2025/26 Gippsland Bowls Region State ladies’ triples championship. (PS)
