It was a massive week at the Lakes Entrance Golf Club with the playing of the 2025 Spring Tournament, which attracted huge entries and plenty of
quality play.
The event, which was played from Wednesday to Sunday, never disappoints with visitors making their regular trek back to East Gippsland to take on the local members and some of the region’s most dedicated and
best players.
The common theme of the
week was the praise for the course, how it was presented and how magnificently it played every day.
Players fine-tuned their preparation last Tuesday at Ruthless and Toothless, which was well supported with a field of 51.
Peter Nicholas was again
prominent winning “A” grade, with “B” grade going the way of Dallas Riseley.
Garry Watson had the round of the day, an impressive 37, with Nicholas mastering the greens with just 13 putts.
The Spring Tournament began on Wednesday with a 4BBB, which saw 120 players tee off, the overall winners the Maffra combination of Noal Pratt and Lesley Dunsmuir with a score of 49 points. A great performance by local members, Julie Rowe and Renee Percival, saw them runners-up with 47 points.
Thursday was men’s and women’s stableford, with Pratt again in outstanding form, victorious (overall and “B” grade) with a sizzling 45 points, Bairnsdale’s Christine Fisher taking “A” grade with 38 points.
The men’s event was won by “D” grade player, David Congalton with 39 points, “A” grade was taken out by Rob Sperring (38), “B” grade went the way of South Pines’ Les Piper (39), while pocket dynamo, Stan Short (38) was victorious in “C” grade.
Friday was Ambrose day, always a favourite with the
players, with this year’s winners Chris Clarke, Murray Webb,
and Bernard and Alison
Woodland (56.375).
Action hotted up on Saturday with men’s and women’s stroke, the ladies event taken out by
“B” grade winner Sandi East, while “A” grade went the way
of Di Dickson.
The men’s event saw 100 players tackle the course, led home by “C” grade player Leo O’Keefe, Sperring continuing his great form to win “A” grade, Metung’s Nick Dunbar successful in “B” grade and local larrikin John Melrose victorious in “D” grade.
The Canadian was the flavour of the final day, taken out by popular local couple Lori and Rick Murray (68.25), with “A” grade winners being Ashley Chester and Kaye Wyndham (67.5), and “B” grade going
the way of Chris Fenner and Apola Weel (68.25).
