Lakes Entrance U3A held its annual general meeting last Thursday and announced that, sadly, it was the last meeting to be chaired by outgoing president, Barbara Decker.
Secretary Val Halliday spoke for all when she thanked Barbara for her many years of service to U3A, which guided the organisation through the challenges of COVID, fluctuating membership and the ongoing issues of accommodation, which were resolved at the beginning of this year when U3A was able to take over the lease of the building in the Lake Tyers Beach Reserve.
The committee presented Barbara with a bread/cheese board handcrafted by a local artisan from locally-sourced timber, a bouquet of flowers assembled by U3A member Di McStay, a bottle of Drambuie, and a handcrafted card made by Paula Sindrey.
An afternoon tea followed, which gave members the chance to mingle and thank Barbara for her hard work.
A resolution to reduce next year’s annual membership fees was passed unanimously and new courses are in the pipeline which will be announced when the course content for 2026 has been finalised.
New president Caroline Kondys admits she has some big shoes to fill but is confident that U3A Lakes Entrance will continue to flourish with a strong membership and a hardworking committee.
