Lakes Entrance turned on a beautiful weekend for the hosting of the Lakes Entrance Croquet Club’s annual Doubles Handicap Tournament.
Although it was windy on Saturday there was a touch of summer on Sunday and the club welcomed 32 croquet competitors from Bairnsdale, Wonthaggi, Leongatha, Morwell, Phillip Island, Sale, Drouin, Orbost and Warragul.
There were two sections with eight doubles pairs in each, with Lakes Entrance member Rhonda Smith thrilled with the quality and skill on display.
“It was a delight again to watch the splendid skills of these croquet players over
the weekend, many experiencing games where scores were taken to the 13th hoop,” she said.
Local members Neil Robbins and Corry Schreuders were called into the field after for two withdrawals at the last minute, and managed to take out section one.
The runners-up were the Wonthaggi combination of Tom Lacey and Neil Warburton.
Winners in section two were Orbost’s Reg and Teresa Armstrong, with runners-up Sue Priller and Robin McKinnon from Wonthaggi and Leongatha respectively.
All club members were congratulated on their assistance in many capacities including catering, tournament management, refereeing and court maintenance, preparation and set up for each day of the event.
The tournament was again successful and enjoyed by all who participated.
