Well-known Lakes Entrance local Sandra Haynes celebrated her 90th birthday recently.
Her family travelled from Queensland for the occasion and joined her and son Phil, who lives locally, for a few days’ celebrations.
Sandra, her late husband Barrington and twin sons arrived in Sydney from the United Kingdon in 1975. She did promotion work for a record company, plus daytime television. During the 1950s, the era of Big Bands in England, Sandra was a dance band singer, plus theatre club worker.
On her husband’s retirement they moved to Lakes Entrance in the 1980s where she became involved with the Country Women’s Association and was the East Gippsland Group president for two years. She also was a magistrate and Justice of the Peace.
Now at 90 she is taking things a bit easier, but still goes to activities at Gippsland Lakes Complete Health Centre, visits friends and can sit back and relax.
As Sandra says at 90, “I’ve been there, done that and it was a good, interesting life”.
