Twin Rivers Bream Classic reels in the anglers

by
17 July 2025
in Local News

The Twin Rivers Bream Classic is set for Friday, July 18 to Sunday, July 20, marking nearly three decades of celebrating East Gippsland’s vibrant fishing community.

Organised by the Twin Rivers Men’s Shed, this beloved catch-and-release competition invites anglers of all ages and skill levels to the scenic waters of the Nicholson, Tambo, and Mitchell Rivers, as well as the broader Gippsland Lakes region.

And despite recent heavy

rainfall and flooding, the bream are biting!

A WEEKEND OF FISHING

AND FESTIVITIES

Fishing kicks off at 6pm on Friday, July 18, and concludes at 11.30am on Sunday, July 20. Participants will gather at the Johnsonville Boat Ramp for the major prize draw and celebration starting at 11.30am on Sunday.

This year’s event boasts a substantial prize pool, including a $27,500 Aquamaster 420 Heavy Duty Open Boat, complete with trailer and motor, courtesy of Gippsland RV and Marine. Additional prizes include Hobie Passport kayaks for the top 10 longest bream in both senior and junior categories.

COMPETITION CATEGORIES AND COMMUNITY SPIRIT

The classic features various competition categories:

– King or Queen of Bream 2025: Awarded for the longest string of five bream caught over the weekend.

– Longest bream: Separate categories for senior male, senior female, and junior (12 years and under) anglers.

– Runner-up prizes: Recognising the second-longest bream in each category.

Every junior angler aged 12 and under will receive a prize, thanks to the continued support of the Nicholson General Store and Post Office.

Online registrations are open until 6pm on Friday, July 18. In-person registrations will be available at The Nicholson Hotel on Friday evening and Saturday morning.

JOIN THE TRADITION

The Twin Rivers Bream Classic is more than a fishing competition; it’s a celebration of community, camaraderie and the natural beauty of East Gippsland. Whether you’re a seasoned angler or new to the sport, this event offers a welcoming environment for all.
