Lakes Entrance pickleballers recently undertook a highly successful venture up the coast to Pambula to take part in an interstate challenge.
Organised by Lakes Entrance Tennis Club’s Mike Spruzen and the Sapphire Coast Association’s Kylie Kiss, the event was marked as a highlight on the calendar for both emerging pickleball organisations.
Sixteen players from Lakes bunked in at both Merimbula and Pambula resorts on the Friday, ready to test their skills against new opposition across the weekend.
“What a weekend it was, the weather gods smiled on all players over both days, no wind and perfect sunshine,” Spruzen said.
Sapphire Coast had a stronger range of players across both teams which showed on day one’s results, with the top end of the Lakes Entrance contingent highly competitive against
their New South Wales counterparts.
Day one results saw the Sapphire Coast come out on top 78 games to 18.
Day two saw less competitive action, but lot more social interaction with players from both teams matched up with
each other throughout the morning.
“Kylie and Brian, managing the draw and scores, ran the show wonderfully well, with both teams fed lunch on both days. All players were invited to the Merimbula RSL for a dinner on Saturday night for a group get together and reflect on the day’s pickleball,” Spruzen said.
The weekend was a fantastic opportunity for both groups to bond with each other and learn more about how this ever growing popular sport works.
