It was a tough day at the courts for the Lakes Entrance netballers during round 10 of the East Gippsland Football Netball League, going down to Lucknow in
all grades.
But there were plenty of positives, including the performance of the “A” grade side who played some outstanding netball, going down to the unbeaten ladder leader by just 10 goals, 45-35.
Even more impressive was the fact the Seagulls trailed by nine goals at quarter time, after turning the ball over way too easy and often in the first stanza.
The Seagulls made some significant changes at quarter time, and with Lucy and Poppy Carroll leading the way in defence, Lakes Entrance put together some outstanding passages of play, reducing the lead to just five goals at half time as they played one of their best quarters for
the year.
The pressure was high in the third term as the Seagulls took the match right up to Lucknow, finding the lead mid quarter, only for the Magpies to surge late to maintain the five-goal advantage at three quarter time.
The final term was a tough contest, Lakes trying hard, but the ladder leader had all the answers in a match which had way more positives for the Seagulls than negatives.
If the Seagulls can maintain this type of form in the coming weeks, the wins
will come.
In “B’ grade both sides engaged in a hard-fought game from start to finish, with the Seagulls delighting their fans with some swift passages of play.
However Lakes was unable to sustain the intensity going down to the Magpies 40-26, with Chelsea Lavery and Ava Morrison solid contributors for the the Seagulls.
Lucknow never let the Seagulls into the match in “C” grade, dominating from the start to finish, winning by 55 goals, 67-12.
Mikaela Ashworth and Alicia Friend played well for the Seagulls.
It was a similar scenario in “D” grade, with the Seagulls playing some great defence and putting together some nice passages of play, but they couldn’t match the Magpies consistently, the visitors running out 47-16 victors.
Charlotte Zagami and Ginger Svetlik were award winners for Lakes Entrance.
There was disappointment for the Seagulls in the under 17s suffering their first defeat of the season, going down to the Magpies by just one goal in a thrilling match, fitting of a grand final.
Bonnie Rotheram, Lucy Carroll and Taylah Alsop were all in great form for Lakes Entrance, who lost no admirers with their slender loss.
Despite the loss they still sit on top of the ladder, ahead of Wy Yung by significant percentage.
In the under 15 game the Magpies came out strongly, the Seagulls working hard in defence to keep them in check, but eventually the class of the Magpies took over, winners 44-17.
Charlie Richardson and Lily Jakins valuable contributors for Lakes.
The under 13 match, saw the fourth-placed Seagulls take on the unbeaten Magpies, with Lakes Entrance taking the match right up to Lucknow, putting together some outstanding passages
of play.
Unfortunately, the Magpies’ energy was too much to conquer, winning 29-18.
Haddie McLeod and Sadie Williams both having good games for the Seagulls.
