Australia’s only alpine glamping experience

20 June 2025
in Local News

Imagine waking up beneath a canopy of snow-dusted gums, a warm fire crackling at your feet and an uninterrupted view of a winter wonderland — all from the comfort of your private luxury dome.

Welcome to the Hypedomes at Mount Hotham: Australia’s only snow glamping experience, curated by the award-winning eco-tourism company, Alpine Nature Experience.

Nestled within a tranquil snow gum forest at the end of the scenic Dargo Lookout trail, this one-of-a-kind retreat blends adventure, indulgence and sustainability in one unforgettable stay. With just three Hypedomes available, exclusivity and serenity are guaranteed.

WHERE LUXURY MEETS

THE LANDSCAPE

The newly launched all-season Hypedomes are as functional as they are striking. Crafted from transparent and reflective hexagonal panels, each dome is strategically designed to offer sweeping views of the snowy landscape and starry skies — without compromising your privacy.

Inside each Hypedome is fitted with a plush double bed, a trundle for extra guests, and plenty of linen to keep you cosy, including -8°C sleeping bags and extra blankets. There’s a sink with fresh drinking water, soft LED lighting, charging ports and — perhaps most importantly for those alpine evenings — a fireplace to warm your toes after a day of snowy exploration.

A HIDDEN VILLAGE

EXPERIENCE

Your alpine adventure begins with a gentle, guided snowshoe tour through the snow-kissed forest. As you meander through the serene landscape, you’ll arrive at a hidden eco-village alive with the scent of woodsmoke and French delicacies.

Guests are welcomed into the central tipi — complete with an outdoor fire, bar and rustic charm. Here, an authentic French alpine dinner awaits: a freshly prepared three-course meal featuring a traditional fondue using cheeses sourced directly from the French Alps. Think creamy, melted indulgence paired with crusty bread and matched perfectly with locally sourced wines, curated by founder Jean-François, whose roots in both French culinary tradition and the Rutherglen wine region ensure every bottle and bite is thoughtfully chosen.

Prefer a vegan option? Plant-based meals are available upon request when booking.

APRÈS-SKI, ELEVATED

Those seeking the ultimate indulgence can upgrade their stay with a soak in Australia’s highest-altitude wood-fired hot tub. With 39°C water, a glass of wine in hand, and panoramic views over the Dargo Valley, it’s the ideal way to relax post-ski — or simply enjoy an unforgettable alpine afternoon. The hot tub can be booked as an addition to your overnight stay or combined with a snowshoe tour or skidoo ride.

SAY CHEESE: FRENCH

ALPINE LUNCHES

New this season, Alpine Nature Experience opens its eco-village to daytime guests for “French Cheese Extravaganza” lunches. Choose from two authentic alpine classics:

– Reblochonnade – Inspired by the French cheese Reblochon, this dish features the Australian-made “Mountain Man” cheese, melting decadently over potatoes, charcuterie, cornichons, and salad. Traditionally enjoyed high in the French Alps, here it’s recreated with a side of Aussie alpine charm—and the sound of cowbells (but no cows).

– Traditional Raclette – A favourite of cheese lovers worldwide, raclette is served bubbling from a classic machine, ready to be scraped over your prepared potatoes. Served with cured meats, salad, and tangy pickles, it’s a satisfyingly rich and warming winter feast.

A COMMITMENT TO THE

ENVIRONMENT

True to its name, Alpine Nature Experience is deeply rooted in sustainability. A proud member of 1% for the Planet, the company donates one per cent of its annual sales to environmental causes, including the Bob Brown Foundation, Protect Our Winters (POW), Landcare Australia, and Sea Shepherd.

“Alpine Nature Experience has been built around a sustainable model,” Jean-François said.

“We care deeply about the Victorian Alps. It’s about discovery, education & preservation, and we back it up with a financial commitment.”

That commitment hasn’t gone unnoticed. In 2022, the business took home Gold in both Ecotourism and Unique Accommodation at the VTIC Tourism Awards.
