Local boxing stars Max Reeves and Blake Wells have been putting in the hard yards at a training camp at Surfers Paradise on the Queensland Gold Coast.
They have been working with world renowned strengthen and conditioning coach, Mark Mathie, who puts the polish on world champion Jai Opetaia.
The lads have been working hard, taking in some heavy conditioning work as they prepare for upcoming bouts, thankful for the work with a good crew in one of the country’s leading gyms.
Reeves will return to the ring on July 19 at the Pullman Hotel in Melbourne on former local world champion Will Tomlinson’s
star studded Wildfighter card labeled “Made in Melbourne”.
The event will feature three Australian titles, with Reeves (10 wins, one draw and one loss) defending his Australian Super Middleweight title against New South
Wales boxer Abdul Abdulrahman (15 win and one loss).
Reeves and Abdulrahman were due to go toe-to-toe in June 2024 but the Sydney-based boxer pulled out in the weeks leading up to the contest.
Abdulrahman has built an imposing record, including a phenomenal 11 knockout finishes.
It’s an impressive resume, but Abdulrahman certainly hasn’t got into the ring with anyone who has the ability and reputation of the quietly spoken Reeves, who is trained in Bairnsdale by Paul Carroll.
Reeves hasn’t been seen in the ring since his devastating first round demolition of the previously unbeaten Riley Candy at the Gippsland Regional Sporting Complex in Sale on March 28, but he has left no stone unturned in his preparation.
This is Reeves’ second trip to the Sunshine State, where he has impressed the Opetaia camp with his work ethic and skill set.
Wells is close to singing a fight deal with
No Limit.
