The Lakes Entrance Business, Tourism and Events committee (LEADA BTE) has announced a renewed focus on supporting local businesses at the upcoming Lakes Lights and Lantern Parade event, a highlight of the East Gippsland Winter Festival on Saturday,
July 12.
This year’s event will provide a unique opportunity for the 22 local cafés, restaurants, bars, bakeries and takeaway venues along the route of the Lantern Parade to showcase their offerings and serve the thousands of visitors expected to attend. By focusing on locals, LEADA BTE aims to ensure that the economic benefits of this major event stay within the Lakes Entrance community.
“Our local businesses are the lifeblood of Lakes Entrance,” chair of LEADA BTE Sharen Cameron said.
“It’s vital that we give them every chance to thrive, especially in the quieter winter months. We are asking all locals and visitors to explore the amazing variety of food options along The Esplanade and Myer Street during Lakes Lights, whether it’s a hearty meal, a warm drink, or a delicious takeaway treat.”
To help visitors find their perfect meal, volunteers will direct festivalgoers to the many venues along The Esplanade and Myer Street. Signage and dedicated helpers will ensure it is easy for visitors to discover the fantastic local hospitality on offer.
In addition to the 22 local hospitality businesses, this year’s event will also feature a small number of locally-based food trucks, just five to six in total, compared to around 15 in previous years.
“This change reflects LEADA BTE’s commitment to creating a balanced event that prioritises local businesses while still offering a variety of food truck options,” Sharen said.
Many of the local retailers along the lantern parade route will also open late into the evening ensuring there are plenty of options for everyone to explore.
LEADA BTE encourages everyone attending Lakes Lights to support our local hospitality venues and retail shops. It’s a chance to enjoy a winter night out while helping the businesses that keep our community vibrant year-round.
