Community health organisation Gippsland Lakes Complete Health has received a $4125 donation to purchase a dermatoscope, an aid in diagnosing skin cancer.
According to the Cancer Council, East Gippsland has one of Victoria’s highest incidences of melanoma in Victoria.
A dermatoscope is a hand-held tool to examine and diagnose skin conditions, including melanoma.
Freemasons Victoria made the donation, with several members regular patients at GLCH’s medical clinic on Jemmeson Street in Lakes Entrance.
Freemasons Gippsland South East district coordinator Darrell Traplin said it was important to support the medical clinic in its work caring for our local community.
“Unfortunately, I’ve been a regular attendee at the doctor’s clinic here with skin cancers,” he said.
“Many times, I’ve been lying on Dr Tom’s bench and getting them cut out. It’s essential to look after the medical clinic so they can look after us.”
Clinical and nursing services executive manager Cheryl Bush said that as a not-for-profit organisation, GLCH was always extremely grateful for community donations.
“We’ve been part of this community for 50 years, and it’s support like this that helps us continue delivering the best possible care.”
