The East Gippsland Hockey Association (EGHA) recently participated in the 2025 Junior Country Championships.
The event was played over two days, on May 17-18 at the Essendon Hockey Centre, Greensborough Hockey Centre and State Netball Hockey Centre at Parkville.
Hosted by Hockey Victoria, the event catered for under 18,16 and 14 age groups in both sexes.
EGHA sent five teams, not fielding a side in the under 18 girls competition.
The under 16 and 18 boys teams had excellent tournaments, both finishing third after taking on and beating some of the best young teams and their talented players the state has to offer.
Although not finishing at the pointy end, the under 16 girls (seventh), under 14 girls (eighth) and under 14 boys (ninth) all played some brilliant hockey during their matches, combining better as a team combination as the tournament progressed.
The teams were made up of players from the Orbost, Swan Reach, Mitchell River, Maffra, Sale and Wellington Hockey Clubs.
The EGHA was thankful for the support of all players, managers, coaches and families who showed the region’s spirit and talent.
This year’s senior country championships will be held in Bendigo from June 7-9.
