Two years ago, on May 18, a little wombat lost her mother on the Metung Road but found a group of surrogate parents to look after her.
Where is this wombat named Cosi now and how is she’s doing?
On the night Cosi was rescued she was around five months old.
“I was not supposed to be on that road, but found the wombat on middle of the road,” explained the rescuer Cosette Murphy.
“Trying to move a wombat is not as easy as it looks especially when something is moving inside. With Jo Rossie’s help from Basil Brush Wildlife Rescue I cut the pouch to let a healthy baby girl wombat out.
“Jo looked after her until July 5, 2023. Then Jade from Wombat Wisdom Wildlife Care took over her care. Cosi had mates, Ned and Onyx, to play and grow up with.
Jade reported that Cosi is in Yarram all grown up with Onyx at Mel and the Menagerie, a native and domestic animal rescue inc.
“Mel released them on to her property, but Ned didn’t go with her as he needed more time. He has gone somewhere just as great as Mel’s place though.
“The Metung Lions Club donated $500 to support Basil Brush Wildlife Rescue as more often than not these wonderful carers are digging deep into their own pockets to support the rescued animals,” Cosette said.
