Lakes Entrance remains unbeaten in both the under 13 and 15 East Gippsland Junior Football Association competitions after four rounds, convincingly accounting for Lindenow last Sunday at the Lindenow Recreation Reserve in the Mother’s Day clash.
The under 15s ran out 50-point winners over last year’s premiers, setting the victory up with three unanswered first term goals, never letting the Cats into the match.
Kye Piper was a livewire up forward, cleverly slotting five goals, well supported to Billy Warfe who kicked three, while best on ground Jeremy Rotheram and Tayte Gibbs also kicked two each.
Other standout performers for Lakes Entrance in an outstanding team performance were Cooper Anderson, Tayte Gibbs, Billy Warfe, Kye Piper and Evan Pompei.
The Seagulls sit on top of the ladder, sharing unbeaten status with Wy Yung.
It was a similar story in the under 13s with the Seagulls kicking eight goals to one in the first half, but some thoughtful coaching by Lakes coach Gerard Kennedy kept both sides interested and improving their skills as the visitors ran out five-goal winners.
Callum Yates and John Sowden were the leading goalscorers, with Makayla Sowden, Patrick McGinty, Reide Ymer, Jack Hayllar, Rocky Wetere-Katipa and Max Friend leading the way.
Game highlights included McGinty having four bounces down the wing to set Makayla Sowden up for a clever goal and the coach Kennedy having the three “Ollies”, Jenkins, Robertson and Anderson, as his last line of defence but not realising until he read the team out.
Lakes Entrance is currently second on the ladder, with just Wy Yung sitting above it.
Lakes Entrance will take on Bairnsdale at the Bairnsdale City Oval this Sunday.
