Residents between Kalimna West and Tambo Bay areas may have noticed increased truck movements recently as East Gippsland Water transfers recycled water from its Bruces Track site at Kalimna West to its Water Recycling Plant at Metung.
This initiative is part of East Gippsland Water’s ongoing commitment to responsible and beneficial reuse of recycled water (treated wastewater).
The Metung facility currently has the
capacity to accept additional recycled water, which is used to irrigate farmland and grow crops on site. Recent warmer weather has created opportunities.
All recycled water produced is directed toward beneficial outcomes, with a strong emphasis on environmental sustainability.
As well as irrigating East Gippsland Water’s pasture and tree plantations, the recycled water is also provided to third parties including farmers and sporting facilities.
Additionally, it plays a key role in supporting local wetlands, such as the internationally recognised Macleod Morass near Bairnsdale.
East Gippsland Water thanks the community for its understanding as this temporary trucking activity takes place to maximise the use of recycled water and ensure positive outcomes for agriculture and the environment.
