The Lakes Entrance Fire Brigade celebrated a significant milestone this year, completing 50 years of fundraising for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.
One of the fundraising organisers Lesley Garth said the brigade members were excited to share the news that a total of $29,575.90 had been collected, which was $1000 more than last year.
About 60 volunteers participated, with the door-knocking crew
raising $13,191.87, enjoying splendid weather and the generosity of
the public.
This amount included funds collected by the Toorloo Fire Brigade from the Lake Tyers area.
The remaining balance came from the Welby cans hosted by local businesses throughout the year, as well as raffles held during the day and at various venues in the evening.
Many children in Lakes Entrance have benefited from the Royal
Children’s Hospital including
Lesley’s daughter Zoe, who has a Wilms tumour and received treatment at the RCH.
“I would also like to acknowledge Graeme and Truus Adams, who have been helping with fundraising since the beginning,” Lesley said.
“Their daughter Carilynn is married to Ray McKay, who was a patient at the RCH as a child.
Ray dropped into the Lakes Entrance Fire Station during the day to lend his support to this very worthy cause.
“We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed to making this year such a resounding success,” Lesley said.
