The Lakes Entrance Pelicans junior squad senior culminated on Saturday with the under 12 boys and girls sides competing in the Junior Country Championships
at Bendigo.
Last week the under 14 teams competed in their championships at Ballarat.
The under 12 boys impressed on the first day of championships, scoring confidence boosting wins over Ararat and Mansfield, before being beaten by Seymour.
Graded in division five, they struggled on Saturday, despite outclassing Morwell, they went down to Macedon and Bendigo, before being eliminated by Portland in a sudden death quarter final, 54-35.
The under 12 girls went through day one unbeaten, proving too good for Rochester, Mansfield and Phillip Island.
Graded in division three and four, they continued their good form on Saturday, beating Sale, Terang and Surfcoast, before succumbing in a close quarter final clash against Korumburra 34-31.
The under 14 boys found the going tough on day one, losing to Phillip Island, Yarrawonga Mulwala and Terang.
They managed to beat Korumburra and Benalla on Saturday but couldn’t get over the line against Yara Nul and their quarter final conqueror, Seymour, going down. 47-28.
In the under 14 girls, the Pelicans went winless on day one, before going down to Terang and Wangaratta, but their campaign was highlighted by a well deserved victory over Leongatha, 38-16.
Unfortunately they also were eliminated in the quarter final, losing to Foster 32-24.
