Mary Murrell and partner David Barrett took out the Lakes Entrance Club Doubles Championship held last week.
With comfortable weather on Monday and Tuesday, 14 members were paired up in a Hi/Lo format of partnerships and played six games each at level play with the annual doubles championships up for grabs.
The pairs were graded according to their handicap allowing the more experienced players to support a lower level of player for the event.
Many close games were fought with the winners being Murrell and Barrett winning five games.
The runners-up trophy was determined by hoops, with both combinations in contention finishing with four victories, Alan Drayton and Fay Kleehammer narrowly coming out ahead of Rhonda Smith and Su Robbins by one hoop.
Congratulations were offered to the winning players at the official presentation and to all the other players who played so well to make the championship a success.
In a competitive event, 10 of the 21 games went to a tie-break hoop, making for some exciting finishes.
This concluded the club championships for 2025 with the exception of the President’s Trophy which will be held later in the year after some of the members return from their winter getaways.
Lakes Entrance Croquet Club will be holding its annual singles tournament on the weekend of May 24-25.
Players from across Victoria will attend and the club is looking forward to welcoming players to Lakes Entrance for a great weekend of Golf Croquet. There will be three sections with eight players in each competing for a winners and runners-up prize.
The club welcomes any spectators who may like to come and observe the tournament and to get an idea of how the game is played.
Club secretary Rhonda Smith reports the club is always looking to attract new members.
“The game of Golf Croquet is a passive and intelligent game played by all age groups and the Lakes Entrance Croquet Club would welcome your interest at any time,” she said.
