Bairnsdale Basketball Association is excited to welcome renowned shooting coach Phil Shelley to present a special session for players and coaches this Sunday at the Bairnsdale Aquatic and Recreation Centre from 12-2pm.
With more than 25 years of experience in specialist shooting coaching and coach education, Shelley is one of Australia’s leading experts in shooting development.
He was the specialist shooting coach for the Melbourne Tigers during their 2007/08 National Basketball League championship-winning season and has since worked with numerous clubs, associations, schools and sports academies across Australia.
Beyond his coaching expertise, he has spent more than 20 years as a sports educator, teaching at top Australian institutions such as Victoria University, Deakin University, Monash University, Chisholm Institute, and Federation Training.
Shelley has also served as a sports science consultant for Basketball Australia’s National Intensive Training Programs (NITP)
in Victoria and as a long-time coaching course presenter for Basketball Australia.
In 2018, he was invited by Basketball Australia to present his shooting analysis and coaching methodology at the National Coach Conference at the Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence.
Shelley’s proven shooting development strategies have helped many athletes (including Matthew Dellavedova) achieve success at the state, national and international levels, including Olympic selection, national and world championships and success at the Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence and US college program scholarships.
From mastering the fundamentals to refining elite-level shooters, his knowledge is invaluable for players and coaches at all levels, with the clinic designed to offer valuable insights for every participant, no matter the skill level.
The clinic is designed as an educational opportunity for coaches and players, not a supervised childcare service.
All participants under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian present for the duration of the session, with players and coaches needing to bring a basketball with them.
