The Bill Hope Memorial Race was contested last Saturday by members of Metung Yacht Club.
The race involved two heats. The first heat was Metung to Paynesville, and the second heat a couple of hours later was from Paynesville to Metung.
Interspersed between heats one and two was a lunch at Gippsland Lakes Yacht Club, Paynesville, for the Metung Yacht Club sailors.
The race commemorates the long involvement of Bill Hope with Metung Yacht Club.
The event saw four Etchells and four Keelboats racing in the first leg, in light wind, four to five knots, the race shortened across Lake King to finish at Carstairs Light.
Come Monday was first across the finish line in heat one, crewed by Stuart Loft (helm), Katrina Fleming and Peter Bull.
They were followed by Beagle, helmed by Simon Bazeley, crewed by Bruce Crombie, Brian Land and Ed Smith.
Placing third was Odyssey, with Roger Claydon (helm), Anne Claydon and Brandon Kibby on board.
The second leg began at 3pm at Paynesville, through McMillan Straits, then across Lake King in winds 13-14 knots and high seas.
The finish was in front of Metung Yacht Club, in Bancroft Bay.
Come Monday was again first yacht across the finish line, followed by Beagle, then Odyssey.
After handicaps were calculated the trophy was awarded to the team of Southern Pirate, Rod Edwards, Andrew Thompson and Charlie Edwards (helm).
The presentation was attended by Jo Hope, widow of the trophy namesake.
