Phillip Newton, originally from Lakes Entrance, and now living at Calvary Care Kalimna, has just celebrated his 70th birthday.
He has a twin brother who was not able to attend but enjoyed joining in on Facetime to celebrate both their birthdays.
Phillip pursued a career in welding, becoming a boilermaker and working in the mining industry and later in the Northern Territory. His time at a Christian mission in Darwin saw him handling major steelwork projects, including building structures for community use.
Phillip’s dedication extended to Manila, where he helped construct a utility building in Joy City, supporting a community relocated from Smoky Mountain. The building housed a child-feeding program, a clinic, a church space, and a multipurpose room.
A lifelong friend of Tony and Margaret Lyle, Phillip is a devoted born-again believer who has served in both Australia and the Philippines.
At the Kalimna Nursing Home, he receives support from NDIS carers, including Andy Wickham Empower Support, along with Kath, Kate, Kim, Clare Harris, and physiotherapist Madelyn from Gippsland Pathology Group.
He is grateful for the love and care he receives and looks forward to attending Lakes Life Church every fortnight and thanks the Calvary Care Kalimna staff for their support.
He enjoys visits from Lynn Sutton and Val Latham who have been visiting residents for more than 20 years.
