The Lakes Entrance town is looking resplendent thanks to the efforts of the Christmas in Lakes Entrance group which has been busy with big red bows and wooden decorations.
Last year the group got down to three members which made it all too overwhelming, but after a public meeting recently they now have a good number of helpers.
Jane Kingston is the only original member of the group that started five years ago and she is pleased to see some new people come on board.
“It is great to have some extra help as we are all volunteers who have busy lives, and my husband Vaughan who is always helping out,” she said.
“This year we haven’t done the pallet Christmas tree competition but have introduced a best decorated shop front. Lakes Entrance Action and Development Association (LEADA) have donated $200 towards the prize, which is a voucher for the Central Hotel.
“Most of the street decorations are from donations and are concentrated around the roundabout into town, Myer Street and near the post office. Our members have been generous buying many of the pieces, but we also are lucky to have Max Anderson doing wooden decorations and Ian Wild the original pallet Christmas tree maker.
“We are very grateful to the Lakes Volunteer Craft Group for their support in donating $1000 which has been fantastic help over the past years,” Jane said.
