Lakes Entrance Surf Lifesaving Club has received funding under the Volunteer Emergency Services Equipment Program (VESEP) to enable it to purchase numerous pieces vital equipment.

Volunteer emergency services organisations across East Gippsland have received a funding boost to support their ongoing service to the local community as part of the Volunteer Emergency Services Equipment Program (VESEP) grants.

Member for Eastern Victoria Tom McIntosh recently announced that 13 volunteer emergency service responders in East Gippsland are among the 2024-25 VESEP grant recipients that will share in more than $15 million to purchase new equipment, improve emergency response capability and support community safety.

“Our East Gippsland community relies on our incredible first responders – both paid and volunteers – in times of need,” Mr McIntosh said.

“Congratulations to the successful groups and thanks to the hardworking members. These investments are set to make these highly valued roles easier, faster, and more even more effective.”

The Wairewa Fire Brigade near Nowa Nowa will receive more than $140,000 from the state government, for a new ultra light fire tanker ahead of the 2024-25 fire season.

The Bruthen SES has been awarded $95,172 for a new Toyota Hilux, while the Bairnsdale SES unit will receive $92,845 for a new Ford Ranger, to replace an older 2013 model.

“This new vehicle will allow VICSES Bairnsdale Unit to continue responding to emergencies with greater reliability and safety,” Bairnsdale SES Officer Karina Osgood said.

“The support from VESEP funding is invaluable in helping us maintain the highest level of readiness for our community.”

Other major beneficiaries from this round of VESEP funding include the Paynesville Coast Guard with $60,000 for replacement motors, fitting of motors, and an update of electronic steering, and the Mossi-Tambo Fire Brigade with $52,000 for a new shed.

Since 2015, the State Government has provided $138 million in VESEP grants, ensuring volunteer groups throughout the state have the resources, equipment and facilities they need to continue their vital work supporting local communities.

“We know this funding will a vital boost for our selfless volunteers who are always there for Victorians when they need them,” Minister for Emergency Services Jaclyn Symes said.

“Volunteers look forward to the VESEP grants every year – we’re proud to support the vital fundraising work they do with this program.”
