Last Friday, November 29, at 10.29am, the local CFA was called to a house fire at Bronsdon Street, in Lakes Entrance.
The building was well alight with smoke visible to crews prior to arrival on scene.
A team of approximately 30 firefighters from Lakes Entrance, Toorloo Arm, Kalimna West, Bruthen, Metung and Johnsonville CFA brigades worked quickly to contain the fire to the building and prevent it spreading to adjoining properties.
Crews were supported by Bairnsdale CFA providing specialist Breathing Apparatus (BA) support, which made for a seamless change over for the BA operators.
Paynesville CFA Rehabilitation unit also attended to take care of firefighter welfare for the duration of the incident, along with support from Tambo Group Field Command and District 11 staff.
Local Police and Ambulance Victoria crews also attended providing immediate support to the occupant of the building.
Fire crews were situated around the perimeter of the scene to protect neighbouring properties, containing the blaze and bringing it under control within 40 minutes.
Lakes Entrance CFA stressed that while the weather is warming up and we are thinking about bushfire preparedness, it is also important to ensure that our smoke detectors are regularly tested and operational all year around.
