Lakes Entrance 2 moved back up to second on the Gippsland Bowls Region weekend pennant ladder at home last Saturday.
In a hard fought match, Lakes 2 prevailed over Paynesville, 65-50, who now drop to seventh, with plenty of work to do if they are to emulate last year’s grand final experience.
Paynesville threatened in a couple of the rinks, but Lakes 2 rallied late, winning all three in an impressive performance against a fellow contender.
Victorious for Lakes 2 were Jeff Wilson, Clement and Lillibeth Hochkins, Boyd McPhee (20-15), and Glenn Barker, Wallace Mason, Barry Roberts and Mike McKay (22-19), all carrying on their good form from last week against Metung.
Michael Bratt, Maurice Carroll, Johannes Kool and Harley Johnson hitting some form this week, victorious 23-16.
In the battle of two evenly matched sides, third-placed Lindenow’s impressive season continued, outpointing fourth-positioned Lakes Entrance 1, 63-47.
Stephen Smith, Daniel Roberts, Bill Rowley and Kevin Brown the only winners for Lakes 1, 18-14 victors.
While in division two, Lakes 3 had a bye, maintaining its hold on third place on the table.
Lake 4 moved up to fourth after scoring a 75-64 win over Bairnsdale 3, despite winning just one rink.
Ernie Smith, Peter Taylor, David Ramsay and Ray Ricca were in sensational form, getting their side home with a extraordinary 41-7 victory.
In division three, the match between Lakes Entrance 5 and Bairnsdale 4 was abandoned due to the hot weather, after halving the points, Lakes 5 sit in fourth place on the ladder.
In the bottom of the cellar dwellers, seventh rank Lakes Entrance 6 played a draw with eighth ranked Howitt Park, 34-34.
Kerrie Darby, Margo Short, Viv Grumley and Christine Piatek were winners for Lakes 6. 17-14.
