Style, fashion, ladies in hats and gentlemen in suits were displayed in all their glory last Tuesday when local fashion designer Marlene Rees and the Lake Tyers Beach Hall Committee staged a Melbourne Cup Day fundraiser.
The event was a great success with 90 people attending and joining in the spirit of ‘the race that stops a nation’.
It began with a Floating Threads Studio fashion parade, featuring lovely models Lyn Funnell, Becky McGrath and Cheryl Long, who showed off the garments to perfection.
By popular demand a Fashions On The Field parade followed, with no shortage of participants living up at the catwalk to show off their Cup Day attire, including hats and fascinator creations.
Winner of the best dressed lady was Anita Baker, with her amazing dress being made entirely from paper and which had taken many many hours to create – she was a well-deserving winner. Her sister, Atina, won best hat and that was also regarded as a spectacular creation. The best dressed man prize went to Dino Zagami, who strutted the catwalk in fine style.
The parade was followed by a delicious luncheon, prepared by Sue Anderson who had travelled from Canberra for the event. Sue also donated the main raffle prize of a large box of condiments and other goodies, which was won by Eleanor Steel.
Festivities included several sweepstakes and raffles with prizes donated by local businesses.
Altogether, the event raised a little over $2400 which will go towards the hall’s new solar and battery system, which has been partly donated by RACV Solar.
A special thanks went to the hard-working committee members and volunteers on the day: Sue and David Anderson, Karen Murdoch, Leanne Flaherty, Brian and Leanne Bolding, Ellie Locke, Anne and Stan Baker for their incredibly generous floral arrangements, Neil Smith, Bill Payne, Sasha Kruse and Barry Funnell.
Floating Threads Studio will be open on Saturday, November 16 and Sunday, November 17, for those who would like to peruse the garments featured in the fashion show.
