Lakes Entrance will be represented in the East Gippsland netball grand finals on Saturday by the under 17s and “B” grade.
The under 17s advanced to the grand final in week one of the finals, easily accounting for Boisdale Briagolong, and will play Wy Yung in the grand final on Saturday at Bairnsdale City Oval at 9.35am.
It was a more dramatic path for the Seagull “B” graders, who scored a come-from-behind victory over Wy Yung to advance to the grand final against the unbeaten Boisdale Briagolong, with the match to be played at 12.40pm.
Wy Yung was out of the blocks early, establishing a four-goal advantage by quarter time, but the Seagulls coaching panel was happy with their side’s effort late in the quarter, the confidence coming to fruition after the break, which saw several positional changes adopted.
Brittney Seccull’s movement into the centre paying immediate dividends as the Seagulls upped the tempo, winning the quarter by a goal and drawing within three goals at half time.
Molly Stevens (32 goals) was proving a stumbling block for the Tigers, as she worked her magic under the ring.
The Tigers regained their advantage and composure in the third quarter, consolidating a five-goal advantage with one term remaining.
Lakes was hoping if it could convert every chance the defensive play created it could still win and that’s exactly what happened, dominating the last term getting up to win by a goal 37-36, in a near perfect final stanza.
Boisdale Briagolong was much too good for Lakes Entrance in “D” grade winning by 15 goals after a dominant second term, winning 38-23.
Lakes fought hard right to the end but were no match for the Bombers, who went through the home and away season unbeaten.
