Gippsland Lakes Complete Health (GLCH) is proud to join the global physiotherapy community in celebrating World PT Day 2024.
This year’s theme spotlights low back pain (LBP) and the critical role physiotherapy plays in managing this common and debilitating condition.
Low back pain is the leading cause of disability worldwide, affecting 619 million people in 2020 — an astonishing one in 13 individuals. Almost everyone will experience low back pain at some point in their lives, though for most, it won’t become chronic. However, when it does, it can have a significant impact on quality of life.
GLCH’s physiotherapists are at the forefront of providing expert advice, guidance and treatment for those suffering from low back pain. They are committed to improving the overall health and wellbeing of our community by helping individuals manage their pain and reduce the likelihood of future episodes.
“Our physiotherapists lead the way in treating low back pain with expert advice, evidence-based exercises, and education,” Parivesh Kumar, lead physiotherapist at GLCH, said.
“By promoting movement and empowering patients with knowledge, they help them make remarkable recoveries and return to living their best lives.”
GLCH’s physiotherapists are skilled in treating various types of acute and persistent musculoskeletal pain. Among the specialist programs offered at GLCH are GLA:D (Good Life with Arthritis: Denmark) for hip and knee osteoarthritis and Better Balance for individuals experiencing falls or balance difficulties.
Additionally, GLCH has a dedicated paediatric physiotherapist who focuses on assessing and treating infants, children, and teenagers with conditions such as physical disabilities and developmental delays. This physiotherapist collaborates with families and other health professionals to create individualised intervention plans tailored to specific goals, often using play-based activities to improve mobility, strength, coordination, and function.
“One of our physiotherapists specialises in vestibular rehabilitation, aiding individuals in recovering from certain types of vertigo,” Mr Kumar said.
“Clients can also benefit from neurological physiotherapy, which supports the rehabilitation of conditions like stroke and Parkinson’s disease.”
The GLCH team also offers the world-renowned Parkinson’s program, PD Warrior, which is designed to empower individuals with Parkinson’s disease to lead active and fulfilling lives.
This World PT Day, we encourage everyone to explore the diverse areas of physiotherapy and learn how our services can benefit the community. Whether it’s managing low back pain, improving balance, or supporting recovery from neurological conditions, GLCH’s physiotherapists are here to help you live well.
