In 2019 Lake Tyers Beach Hall Committee had $5000 to strip out the original kitchen and this was the start of a long time coming redevelopment of the whole premises.
With the assistance of grants they updated the kitchen into a commercial grade amenity, but the entire hall was in need of a major upgrade.
This eventuated when the committee was successful in receiving a $400,000 Bushfire Recovery grant and the East Gippsland Shire contributed the balance.
This Saturday, September 7, the hall will be open for the community to inspect the new renovations and familiarise themselves with all the opportunities the hall can now offer.
The hall has more space in the main area, but is also connected to a large undercover deck through fold back glass doors which makes it even a larger area and lets the light stream in. There are new toilet facilities including a parents’ room and shower, a new portable stage made up of three pods to suit all sizes, a meeting room which also opens to the deck which has all abilities access, new tables and chairs and a PA system.
Daniel Whelan from DesignCo planned the redevelopment but he also had a connection with the hall as his grandparents were involved in the development of the first hall in 1962.
The hall committee could not speak highly enough of Daniel’s input and also praised East Gippsland Shire’s assistance.

“We are thankful of the shire’s support all the way through, they were fantastic,” secretary of the hall committee Shane Rees said.
There is 20 kilowatts of solar panels and battery so it will have off grid capability which was installed by RACV Solar. The committee is most grateful for all their support. There is also two electric vehicle charging stations which they hope will generate an income.
It is envisaged these facilities, including free internet, could assist local residents in a bushfire situation, although it is not a designated refuge centre.
“The hall is now a great asset to the community, all up it has been a $1.1 million project,” president Brian Bolding said.
“We have a great committee of committed people and the hall is now open for business. We encourage the public to drop in on Saturday between 10am and 3pm and have a look.
“There are already two weddings booked in and the venue has an endless list of what it could be used for,” Brian said.
