Bairnsdale Fire Brigade is a busy volunteer fire brigade.
The brigade attended a record 309 fire and incident calls last financial year, the most number of fire calls since the brigade began in 1879.
For the mathematically-minded person that’s about six calls a week to house fires, car accidents, bush fires, grass fires, gas leaks and alarm calls to places such as the hospital, Patties, Vegco-One Harvest and Federation Training.
“The new fire station in Calvert Street has been our home for over three years,” Captain Aaron Lee said.
“Like SES, all CFA brigades in East Gippsland Shire and Wellington Shire are volunteers who support their communities via their fire service.
“Recently four new members have been added to our firefighter numbers which is a bonus.
“On July 1st we had some changes to our officers: Captain Aaron Lee, First Lieutenant Charles Stansfield, Second Lieutenant Sam McPherson, Third Lieutenant Jack Raybould, Fourth Lieutenant Griffin Hill and Fifth Lieutenant Rory Smith.
“The elections see these people in their roles for the next two years.
“We also regularly support the community via visits to schools, kindergartens and assisting people in need with smoke alarm installations and talks to community groups as examples.
“I look forward to our members supporting the brigade activities and, in turn our community.”
