Lakes Entrance under 17s recorded its 12th win of the season in round 14 of the East Gippsland netball, outclassing Stratford by 26 goals at Boyd Reserve in Stratford.
The top of the ladder Seagulls are the side to beat in 2024, their victory over the Swans set up by outstanding teamwork and sharp ball movement all the way down the court, the girls opening up plenty of angles while creating space through constant pressure.
The defence was tight and measly, the start of a seamless transition that will hold them in good stead for the remainder of the home and away games and the finals campaign ahead.
Emma Daly, Bonnie Rotheram and Makayla Grabham were all standouts for the victorious Seagulls.
Lakes Entrance was chasing its first victory for the season in the under 15s but found the Swans to be a hurdle too big.
The Swans came out strongly, scoring freely despite the efforts of Sadie Stevens who asserted plenty of pressure in the goal defence bib.
Lakes impressed with some solid passages in the second quarter, working the ball down court impressively, but the Swans’ accurate shooting was making it hard to make a dent in the growing lead.
The coaching staff made some positional changes in the final quarter, Tulli McLeod impressing as goal shooter and Stevens showing considerable promise as a centre.
Stratford was the eventual winner by 29 goals, with McLeod, Stevens and Haylee McKinnon named in the best for the Seagulls.
