Local fishing star, Steven Pryke, has finished 10th in the 2024 Hobie Fishing World Championship in Canada.
The event was won by Pryke’s Australian team-mate, New South Wales angler Jack Gammie, with a score of 274.25 inches for his 15-fish catch over the three days of the event.
The event was held in Tecumseh, Ontario, on the magnificent Lake St Clair, which offers an unparalleled competition-angling experience.
The vast freshwater lake boasting a rich ecosystem that provided an ideal habitat for smallmouth bass made it a prime destination for enthusiasts from all over the world.
Pryke put together three consistent days of fishing, accumulating totals of 83.5, 82.5 and 84 inches for a total of 250.00.
Pryke’s effort saw him within 11 inches of a top three finish against the world’s best anglers, a field made up of 52 anglers from six continents and 15 countries.
With longer daylight hours during June and July, and moderate temperatures, the bass were on the bite, making for a competitive competition.
Anglers were allowed to use the measurement of five fish a day and all were in identically decked out Hobie kayaks for the event.
Pryke has previously competed for Australia in events in China and Sweden.
