Money is not supposed to grow on trees but Lakes Entrance Garden Club seems to have found a way to turn horticultural enthusiasm into serious financial support for the local CFA fire brigade.
Volunteer firefighter John Upton was invited to talk to club members about fire safety and getting prepared for the upcoming summer fire season. He was delighted and surprised to be presented with a donation cheque of $2500 when he finished.
in Lakes Entrance for more than 50 years and has nearly 140 members.
They meet every third Monday of the month at the Mechanics Hall to share gardening tips and ideas. There is usually a “show table” where the results of their gardening expertise is on display.
Visitors are welcome. Afternoon tea is always available along with advice on any gardening topic or problem.
The club also has outings to local gardens, attractions and eateries throughout the year.
