Last Wednesday and Thursday proved to be very busy days for the local SES with 15 jobs needing to be attended to as heavy rains fell in Lakes Entrance and Bruthen districts, meanwhile heavy rain continued across the weekend to make life on the roads difficult for drivers and emergency services.
“Most of the call outs were in the Lakes Entrance town, but we also attended some at Toorloo Arm, Bruthen, Great Alpine Road and Nicholson,” deputy unit controller Daryl Jeffs, said.
The problem area on Eastern Beach Road was again flooded with the SES being astounded how fast the water was rushing along the drain at the back of the houses. They sandbagged as best they could but some houses were affected by the amount of water that is fed into that drain. More than 160mm was recorded in the week to 9am Monday.
“Rain event after rain event we get flooded and there is never anything done about it,” one resident said.
“We have approached the East Gippsland Shire on several occasions without any success.”
