Aboriginal Hospital liaison officers and Koori mental health liaison officers from across the state of Victoria met for a three day forum to come together to discuss the vital work they do for Improving Care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Patients (ICAP).
This year the forum was held in Bairnsdale with Lakes Entrance hosting the group for their seminars at the Bellevue.
The ICAP program is a response to research that highlighted hospitals needed to take a quality improvement approach to how they develop services to the Aboriginal community, and that any changes need to be undertaken in consultation and partnership with the Aboriginal community.
The ICAP program cements that intention at the policy implementation level with a partnership between the Department of Human Services (DHS) and the Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (VACCHO).
